Erekat denies Egyptian interference in Palestinian internal affairs

RAMALLAH, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat denied on Wednesday any Egyptian interference in the Palestinian internal affairs.

Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio that the reports that Egypt is interfering in the Palestinian internal affairs and the US pressure on Israel to stop building the security wall in the West Bank "are totally untrue".

"The Egyptians are helping Palestinians upon our request in the field of training Palestinian security and police officers," Erekat said, accusing Israel of blocking these efforts.

"Unfortunately, all Egyptian efforts are blocked by the Israeli rock of rejection and stubbornness," said Erekat, adding "Israel is insisting not getting back to the negotiation process."

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu Gheit and intelligence chief Omer Suleiman are scheduled to visit Israel in the first week of October and they will discuss with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon the details of the Israeli pullout from Gaza.

Palestinian sources reiterated the two Egyptian officials will express to Sharon that there are conditions for Egypt to succeed in helping Palestinians after Israel's pullout.

The sources said the conditions are the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army and settlements from the Gaza Strip, ending all closures and sieges in Gaza, operating Gaza air and sea posts, and guaranteeing that the Israeli Army won't return to occupy the areas it has pulled out of.  Enditem
