BEIJING, Sept.14 (Xinhuanet) -- Japan has confirmed a new case of mad
cow disease, the third discovery of the brain-wasting illness in the country
this year.
ĦĦA prefectural spokesman says the 5-year-old dairy cow tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, on Friday at a
slaughterhouse in Shisui town, in southern Kumamoto prefecture. China Radio
International reported Tuesday.
More precise tests at a state-run infectious disease research institute
confirmed the finding on Monday.
The animal's meat and organs had not gone on the market, and its carcass
will be incinerated.
Officials at the agriculture and health ministries say they didn't know how
many other dairy cows were at the sick animal's farm.
