Joint meeting leads to Israeli pullout from Gaza: sources

GAZA, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian security sources said Sunday Israel wrapped up a three-day operation in northern Gazacame after a joint meeting between Palestinian and Israeli officials on Friday evening.

The sources said the session was held between Palestinian and Israeli liaison officials over the Israeli withdrawal.   In return for the Israeli withdrawal, the Palestinian security forces would deploy troops in the area to prevent militants from firing homemade rockets at southern Israel.

Israeli forces pulled out of the northern Gaza predawn Saturday, wrapping up a large-scale military operation starting on Wednesday, in a bid to prevent Palestinian militants from launching makeshift Qassam rockets at southern Israeli towns and settlements.

Israeli army sources said the Israeli forces were redeployed in Beit Hanoun, Jabalya refugee camp and Beit Lahia, adding its forces would not hesitate to return back inside the Palestinian areas if necessary.  Endite
