JAKARTA, Sept. 11 (Xinhuanet)--The commander of the separatist Free Aceh
Movement (GAM) has been killed during a fight with the Indonesian armed forces,
a GAM spokesman has confirmed.
According to the Jakarta Post internet here Saturday, Ishak Daud is the GAM's
chief of staff who was killed on Thursday along with his wife and an aide in
a clash with the government troops on Thursday at Babah Krueng in East Aceh
regency, said Yjut Kafrawi.
The government forces said a total of 13 people were killed in clashes in
the area which started from Tuesday this week.
Daud, formerly GAM's regional commander in East Aceh, has been wanted since his
rebellious group hijacked a car with a television crew and the wives of two
air force officers last year, and also first GAM senior leader to be confirmed
killed by the government troops.
The GAM has been fighting for an independent state in the oil and gas rich province of Aceh since 1976. Enditem |
