JAKARTA, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian noted right activist Munir died
in a plane transporting him to the Netherlands for study, Detikcom online news
service reported Tuesday.
Munir, 38, who was aboard Garuda Indonesia plane, complained about his health during a transit in Singapore but decided to continue the trip.
He died three hours before the plane landed at the Schipol airport in
Amsterdam, the report said.
Munir was the chairman of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of
Violence (Kontras), which was founded to help relatives of missing people
allegedly kidnapped by security officers during end years of Soeharto's 32-year
tenure.
He was a key member in the Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violation
in East Timor set up in 1999 by the Indonesia's National Human Rights
Commissions.
The commission's report led to the legal investigations into atleast six
Indonesian military officers, including former military chief General Wiranto,
in connection to violence in East Timor during the UN-sponsored ballot for
