ANKARA, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- One Turkish policeman and one watchman were killed early Tuesday morning in an armed attack against a police point in southeastern Turkey, reported semi-official Anatolia News Agency.

A group of terrorists opened fire at the police point on Diyarbakir-Sanliurfa highway in Diyarbakir province at about 2 a.m local time, killing policeman Fatih Mehmet Zorlu and watchman Seyithan Tekin, said the report.

Turkish security forces have launched an operation in pursuit ofthese terrorists who escaped after staging the attack, added the report.

Meanwhile, a suicide bomber named Menice Gungen shot herself dead in the southeastern province of Siirt, Governor Nuri Okutan said late on Monday.

The female terrorist wanted to explode a hand grenade on her when she saw she was about to be arrested, said Okutan, adding she shot herself dead as the bomb didn't explode. A Browning gun and a hand grenade were found on the terrorist, Okutan said.

In addition, Okutan said Turkish police staged an operation against terrorists in the region Monday evening in line with testimony of a terrorist detained Sunday. Enditem
