BEIJNG, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese central government has allocated 40 million yuan, or 4.8 million US dollars, in disaster relief for the flood-affected regions of the southwest.
The bulk of the money will go to Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, which were devastated by floods triggered by a rainstorm.
So far, the death toll has risen to 76, with 80 people still missing.
The rainstorm caused floods and landslides that trapped hundreds of people, destroyed farmland and transportation links.
The State Council has dispatched a disaster-relief mission to work together with local governments and sent relief goods to the flood-hit areas.
