Militants seize governor's office in Khan Younis
www.chinaview.cn 2004-09-05 17:18:58

GAZA, Sept. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- A group of militants on Sunday seized the governor's office in the southern Gaza Strip town of Kahn Younis for hours, demanding the authorities house the homeless, Palestinian security sources said.

Witnesses said that the militants broke into the building in the morning and ordered all employees to leave.

The militants claimed that the reason for the action was to protest the failure of the authorities to give Palestinian homeless apartments.

There were dozens of Palestinian families living in the streets and tents after their houses were destroyed or razed by the Israeli army bulldozers, the militants said.

They left the building after the authorities promised to solve the problem as soon as possible.

The Israeli army demolished two six-floor buildings in the town last week, rendering dozens of inhabitants homeless.  Enditem
