Pakistan, India to continue dialogue process

    ISLAMABAD, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India Saturday positively assessed the composite dialogue between the two countries, and recommended that the process should continue, the official Associated Press of Pakistanreported.

    Pakistani Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar and his Indian counterpart Shyam Saran met in New Delhi to draw up the agenda for their foreign ministers' meeting on Sunday.

    A joint statement released simultaneously in the two capitals said the foreign secretaries reviewed the progress on the eight-item agenda in the composite dialogue process, kicked off early this year.

    The eight subjects chalked out by Indian and Pakistani officials in February are peace and security, Kashmir, the SiachenGlacier, Sir Creek, Wullar Barrage, terrorism and drug trafficking,economic and commercial cooperation and promotion of friendly exchanges in various fields.

    The two sides agreed that the talks were productive and held ina cordial and constructive atmosphere.

    They would report to the foreign ministers with the recommendation that the composite dialogue should be continued with a view to further deepening and broadening the engagement between the two sides.

    Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri and his Indian counterpart Natwar Singh will meet in New Delhi Sunday to review the overall dialogue process designed to settle all the outstanding issues between the two neighbors. Enditem
