SINGAPORE, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Singapore on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorism act in the three-day hostage siege in a southern Russian school on the edge of Chechnya.

"Singapore strongly condemns this dastardly act of terrorism, which deliberately targeted school children as hostages and resulted in the deaths and injuries of so many," a spokesman for the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Singapore was shocked and saddened by the appalling events that took place in the Russian town of Beslan, the spokesman said, adding that such an act of terrorism once again underscored the need for the international community to stand together and strengthen cooperation in the global fight against terrorism.

At least 322 people, including 155 children, were killed in the hostage crisis in a southern Russian school. Enditem
