3 Turkish among hostages held at Russian school

ANKARA, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Three Turkish citizens including two children are among the people held hostage at a school in Russia's North Ossetia, Anatolia News Agency reported on Thursday.

The agency quoted Danis Akpolat, a relative of the Turkish victims, as saying that the wife and two children of his maternal uncle Seyfi Dogan had been taken hostage.

Akpolat said that after watching the news on TV, he talked to Seyfi on the phone and learned that his uncle's wife and two daughters were at the scene when militants stormed the school.

Seyfi married Anetta Gadiava Dogan in Turkey and the couple later moved to North Ossetia with the children, Akpolat said, adding that Anetta acquired Turkish nationality after their marriage.

Seyfi could not receive any information on his wife and two daughters and was waiting for the help of the Turkish government, he said.

The Russian hostage crisis broke out on Wednesday morning when militants stormed a school in the town of Beslan in Russia's North Ossetia region. Nine people, including eight civilians and one militant, have died since then.

North Ossetia is located in southern Russia, bordering the country's rebellious republic of Chechnya.  Enditem
