RAMMALLAH, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) warned Israel on Thursday against carrying out threats to assassinate leaders of Palestinian factions.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, top aide to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, told Palestinian radio Voice of Palestine that assassination would push the whole area into more complications and would undermine international and Arab efforts to revive the stalled Middle East peace process.
Abu Rudeineh also called upon the United States to step in to stop Israel's assassination policy.
The official's call came after Israel threatened to renew series of assassinations against the Palestinian faction leaders, especially those of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas.
Israel's threat was in response to Tuesday's twin Palestinian suicide bombing attacks in Israeli town of Beersheva, in which 16Israelis were killed and over 90 others wounded.
Ezzedine Al Qassam, the armed wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying this was aimed at avenging two assassinated Hamas leaders in Israeli missile strikes in Marchand April.
However, Hamas denied in a statement sent to reporters that its political leadership outside the Palestinian territories was related to the attack, asserting that any of its operations was planned and carried out inside the territories. Enditem |
