KAMPALA, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- A three-storey hotel which is in its third month of construction collapsed on Wednesday and killed at least six people, local media reported on Thursday.

The hotel building which is located at Entebbe road, south of Ugandan capital of Kampala, collapsed at about 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT).

Witness was quoted by The New Vision newspaper as saying that the building collapsed when the workers removed the props on the first floor and about 50 workers were buried by the rubble of the three-storey building.

By 1:00 p.m. (1000 GMT), the Police Fire Brigade had retrieved two bodies and six workers in critical conditions. Four of the injured died on the way to nearby Kisubi Health Center.

ALice Kagawa, Entebbe deputy resident district commissioner, ordered for more excavators from the Ministry of Works and Wakiso district headquarters.

Deputy chief fire officer Lawrence Adiima who was commanding the rescue effort said that "there is still some serious work. We will not be able to finish today. The building is big. We can onlydo what we can."
