Israel seals off Gaza Strip
www.chinaview.cn 2004-09-01 21:18:20

GAZA, Sept. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The Israeli army has sealed off the Gaza Strip borders, shut down Erez Crossing and the industrial zone, preventing Palestinians from entering or leaving the Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported Wednesday.

Following the foiling of a suicide bombing attack planned to be carried out on Tuesday, the Israeli army decided to shut down the crossing and the adjacent industrial zone until a further notice, the radio reported.

Israeli troops have arrested a Palestinian young man on Tuesday, who was carrying an explosive bag on his back and on his way to carry out a suicide bombing attack in Erez area in the northern Gaza Strip.

Palestinian security sources said hundreds of Palestinian workers have been banned from working in Israel or at the Erez industrial zone until further notice.

Meanwhile, as a reaction to the double suicide bombing attacks on Tuesday in southern Israeli city of Beersheva where 16 people were killed, the assassinations of senior Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip are expected to increase, Israeli security sources told Israel Radio.  Enditem
