KABUL, Aug. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The US-led coalition has arrested another 22 suspected terrorists in Afghanistan during its operations against the remnants of the former Taliban regime and their al-Qaeda allies, the US military said Saturday.

"I can confirm that 22 former Taliban were detained," Scott Nelson, coalition spokesman said at a news briefing here.

He declined to provide more details but admitted that a clean-up operation was underway in the troubled southern Zabul and violence-hit Khost province in southeast Afghanistan.

"We did have a major operation there in Khost and Zabul provinces and hopefully would provide you a lot of details very soon," he told reporters.

If any high-valued target was among the detainees is yet to be known.

More than 400 suspected Taliban, al-Qaeda operatives along withsupporters of renegade warlord and former Prime Minister Gulbudin Hekmatyar have been kept in 23 US detention centers with majority of whom at Kandahar and the US-led coalition headquarters at Bagram for the last over two years.
