MADRID, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Spain on Friday urged Mexico to extradite
six suspected members of the Basque Homeland and Freedom(ETA) separatist
organization, a procedure that has been suspended for six months.
"I expect finally there will be a good response to the petition of
the Spanish government," said a Spanish government spokeswoman.
The six -- Juan Artola, Asier Arronategi, Maria Gorrotxategi, Jose Urquijo,
Ernesto Alberdi and Felix Salustiano -- were arrested in Mexico at the request
of Audience Nacional judge Baltazar Garzon, who accused them of belonging to the
financial network of ETA.
The extradition petition extended by the Spanish government had been
approved by the Mexican government, but a judge accepted the appeal presented by
the alleged ETA members, granting a provisional suspension of the extradition
procedure.
ETA, which seeks the separation of Basque from Spain, is considered a
terrorist organization due to its numerous bomb attacks. Enditem
