GAZA, Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Israeli army backed by tanks and bulldozers stormed Thursday morning the southern Gaza town of Rafah and demolished five Palestinian houses, Palestinian residents and security sources reported.

They said the Israeli soldiers that moved from the border area between Rafah and Egypt stormed al She'out neighborhood in the town amid intensive shooting at the residents' houses.

The bulldozers backed by tanks and Apache helicopters which hovered over the area then started demolishing the houses and razing an agricultural area near the border, they added.

Earlier on Thursday, Israeli Apache helicopters shelled residents' houses in Rafah, causing horror to residents and
damaging their houses, but no injuries have been reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli security sources said a number of homemade al Qassam rockets were fired early Thursday morning at the Israeli town of Sdero, adding that the rockets landed at empty open area, causing no injuries.

Israel Radio reported that Palestinian militants opened fire Thursday at an Israeli army post west of Kahn Youis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The soldiers there responded back, but no injuries had been reported, said the report.  Enditem
