HK to hold exhibition to commemorate Deng's birthday

   HONG KONG, Aug. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- "Giant of the Century" -- Exhibition to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Deng Xiaoping, was to be held here Thursday, it was announced here in a press conference on Wednesday.

   Pan Zhenzhou, Curator of the National Museum of China, noted at the press conference that 230 pictures and 80 exhibits featuring Deng will be put on the show from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4. 

   There will also be a replica of Deng Xiaoping's office in Beijing and a replica of "Xiaoping Road", the road Deng used to stroll in Jiangxi, where he worked in a factory in the early 1970s at one of the lows of his political life. 

   The exhibition aims at introducing Deng's life to the people of Hong Kong, commemorating his achievements, enhancing the will of the people to build a better future for Hong Kong and to accomplish the goal of reunification of the motherland, he added.

   The exhibition comprises of five parts, namely Deng's military life, arduous exploration, the great accomplishment, affection toward Hong Kong, and daily life stories.

   A delegation led by Sun Jiazheng, China's Minister of Culture, as well as Deng's relatives, will attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the Hong Kong Exhibition Center Thursday afternoon.  Enditem
