Portuguese airliner escapes collision in Azores

     LISBON, Aug. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- A Portuguese airliner escaped Friday a collision with another plane during its flight, but the maneuver injured 25 on board, over Portugal's Azores Archipelago.

    A spokesman of the air navigation bureau said the incident occurred at 9:40 hours, local time, when the airliner of the Portuguese carrier TAP, with 141 occupants prepared to land on a runway in Tercera Island, of the Azores, in the Atlantic Ocean.

    The sudden maneuver to dodge the other aircraft left 23 passengers and two crew-members injured. The airliner was carrying133 passengers and a crew of eight.

    The Public Works, Transportation and Communications Ministry ofPortugal said it started investigations on the incident that was about to become a tragedy. Enditem
