BRASILIA, Aug. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Haitian President Boniface Alexandre reiterated his commitment to call "free, democratic, transparent and trustworthy" elections in his country next year, acommunique released by Brazilian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
ĦĦĦĦAlexandre signed the document with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was Thursday in Haiti during the "game for peace" between the national soccer teams of the two countries.
Lula and Alexandre called on the Haitian people who own illegalarms to hand them over to the authorities, the communique said.
Alexandre thanked Brazil for the sending of the necessary troops for the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) immediately and accepting the responsibility of commanding the force.
The UN mission is made up of troops from several Latin Americancountries, including a contingent of 1,200 Brazilian soldiers. Enditem |
