KAMPALA, Aug. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- About 1.7 million people in Uganda are in the face of a growing shortage of food in the next six months, The New Vision newspaper Tuesday quoted a survey from the Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWSNET) as saying.
About 4.5 million people in Ethiopia, 2.3 million in Kenya, 1.1million Somalia and 1.2 million people in Sudan are in need of food aid, according to the survey funded by the United States Agency for International Aid.
Former Ugandan minister of agriculture Kisamba Mugerwa had earlier attributed the looming famine to poor rainfall distribution and drought in the east African country.
He said food production would reduce by at least 40 percent in Uganda and the eastern parts of the country would be most affected. Enditem
