Bush announces plans to cut US troops in Asia, Europe

     WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush on Monday announced plans to slash US troops in Europe and Asia by 60,000 to 70,000.

    Bush made the announcement in a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cincinnati, Ohio.

    Currently there are more than 100,000 American troops in Europe,including about 70,000 in Germany, and another 100,000 in the Asia-Pacific region, in addition to some 150,000 troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Enditem
