ATHENS, Aug. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. basketball team head coach Larry Brown
said he was angry and felt humiliated with a 92-73 loss Sunday to Puerto Rico in
a Group B preliminary-round opener of the Athens Olympic Games.
"I'm angry because the loss took away all the accomplishment wehave
achieved for the past years. I'm angry because the mentality was like this since
day one," said Brown, who led the Detroit Pistons to win the NBA title in June.
"Yes, I feel humiliated," Brown answered when asked about the feeling of
the loss, the first Olympic loss for the U.S. team since they used professional
players in the 1992 Barcelona Games.
"Puerto Rico is better than us as a team. I have to find out how to truly
be a team. We'll see if we are able to do it," Brown said.
Carlos Arroyo, who had a game-high 24 points and seven assists for Puerto
Rico, said it was a victory that the whole country should celebrate.
"This may not be the best game I've ever played, but it's the happiest one I've
had," said the Utah Jazz guard. "We had great attitude, ran fast breaks, and
played solid defense. We're better prepared and we deserve the win." Enditem
