ROME, Aug. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- A militant group Sunday called on its
fighters to attack "all the targets" in Italy after the government ignored the
group's "final warning" to pull its troops out of Iraq, Italian media reported.
The Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claims to have links with Al-Qaeda, said in a
statement issued on the Internet that Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi
was one of the group's main targets, stressing that its upcoming attacks won't
come to an end until "Iraq is secure."
It's not the first time the group voiced threats on Italy. On August 11, it
sent a "final warning" via the Internet, demanding Italy pull its troops out of
Iraq.
The militant group has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks,
including the March 11 terrorist attacks in Madrid and other attacks in Iraq and
Turkey.
Italy has some 3,000 troops in Iraq, making it the third largest contingent
after that of the United States and Britain. Enditem |
