Rogge believes doping allegations not marring Olympics image

ATHENS, Aug. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The International Olympic Committee(IOC) president Jacques Rogge said on Friday that he had no concern that the individual cases of doping offenses would taint the image of the Olympic Games.

"The Games is stronger than the individuals," Rogge told reporters at a press conference.

His remarks came after the doping drama surrounding Greek sprinter stars Kostadinos Kenteris and Ekaterini Thanou attracted intense media attention and eclipsed the final preparation for theAthens Olympics, whose opening ceremony will take place on Friday night.

Olympic 200 meters champion Kenteris and his training partner Thanou suffered cuts and bruises in an motorbike accident when they returned to the Olympic Village late on Thursday.

Both had failed to attend doping tests earlier on Thursday and Rogge had asked for an investigation into the reason that the pairmissed the tests.

It is the latest drug drama in the build-up to Athens Olympics. The doping allegations against a string of American track and field athletes have overshadowed the sport of athletics and cast shadow over the Athens Olympics.

Rogge has listed doping as one of the major dangers that are threatening the health of the Olympic Movement but believed the anti-doping campaign is "gaining ground".

"The news recently has been marked by a growing number of positive doping cases. Paradoxically this is an encouraging sign that the fight against doping is gaining ground and that it is becoming increasingly hard to cheat.

He expected more positive cases in the Athens Olympics due to more and stricter doping tests.

"But the more we catch, the better it is,"he said. Enditem
