Oil depot explodes in Changchun, killing one

An oil depot in Changchun, northeast China's Jilin Province, exploded August 11, 2004, killing one and injuring another. The depot is located at the Northeast China Normal University, and students in buildings near the depot were evacuated after the explosion. It took more than two hours for firefighters to extinguish the fire. It is reported that improper operation by a worker caused the accident. [newsphoto]
