Iraq allocates 1.5 billion US dollars to boost electricity

    BAGHDAD, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Developing Cooperation announced that the ministry allocated 1.5billion US dollars to develop the electricity sector throughout Iraq, Al Itihad newspaper reported Wednesday.

    "The allocated money would be directed to developing andmodernizing the electricity network, such as the projects ofproviding electricity to all the regions, the projects ofcontrolling the distribution networks, as well as training,equipping and services," an official at the projects and contractsoffice of the ministry was quoted as saying.

    He added that the ministry was working to supply the electricitysectors with the modern means and equipment including computers.Iraq has suffered a shortage of electricity since the topplingof the former regime because of the looting and the robbery thatfollowed the US occupation. Enditem
