BERLIN, Aug. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The German government
confirmed Tuesday that Germany and Libya have reached a compensation agreement
over a 1986 disco bombing in West Berlin.
Libya's Gaddafi Foundation and lawyers representing some 160 German victims have agreed over a total of
35-million-dollar settlements in Berlin, government spokesman Bla Anda said.
Libyan ambassador to Germany Said Abdulaati said
earlier that Libya would pay 35 million dollars in compensation to German
victims.
In 2001, a Berlin court ruled Libya's secret service
was behindthe disc attack which killed two US servicemen and a Berlin woman and
injured about 160.
On June 24, a German court upheld the 12 to 14 years
prison sentences for the four people convicted in the bombing, including a
former Libyan diplomat.
In 1986, a bomb ripped through the nightclub in West
Berlin, which was popular with American military personnel stationed in the
then-divided city.
The bombing has since been a major blockade for
improving relations between Germany and Libya. Enditem
