ATHENS, Aug. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The Australian Diving team is ready to compete against top divers from China and Canada at the Athens Olympic diving tournament.
"They are certainly ready to compete, ready to compete well andhopefully the results will show that," said Julie Kent, Team Leader Australia. "We have had very good results over the last few years and there are certain expectations for the whole team. But realistically it comes down to individual performance. Each individual has his or her own goals."
Kent singled out the synchronized events and the men's 10m platform competition as Australia's greatest medal hopes. "Especially in the synchronized events, we've had very good results," she said.
"As for the individual men's platform event, that is a very tough competition but our boys have had good results in recent times. So hopefully we can be successful there."
Australia will not have everything its own way, though, with Kent expecting a particularly strong challenge from China and Canada.
"The Chinese are extremely strong and Canada has one world champion and World Cup champion. The Canadians Alex Ddspatie and Emilie Heymans are strong competitors and have number one world rankings," Kent said.
The Olympic Diving competition will start on August 14 at 21:00hours with the women's synchronized 3m springboard event. Enditem |
