M5.6 earthquake hits northeast Japan

    TOKYO, Aug. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake registering an estimated magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Iwate Prefecture in northeast Japan on Tuesday afternoon, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

    There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the 3:13 p.m. (0613 GMT) quake, which measured at lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7.

    There is no alert of tsunami, the agency said. Enditem
