BERLIN, Aug. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Talks restarted Monday over possible Libyan compensation for victims of a 1986 discotheque bombing in what was then West Berlin.
No details came out of the talks in Berlin between German and Libyan representatives, but a lawyer for the victims told German press that the current round of negotiations could last several days.
In the bombing at "La Belle" discotheque on April 5, 1986, two American soldiers and a woman civilian were killed and 200, mostlyGermans, were wounded.
German courts have since then sentenced four persons for the bombing and ruled that Libyan intelligence was behind the incident.
In previous rounds of negotiations, the Libyan side has reportedly agreed to pay compensation in 25 million dollars, whilelawyers for German victims demand a total payment of more than 67 million US dollars.
Libyan negotiators have also raised a counter demand on Berlin to compensate for Bedouins maimed and killed by landmines left over by Nazi troops in Northern Africa in the second world war.
The thorny negotiations have apparently made it difficult for Germany to improve ties with Libya, despite Tripoli's willingness to give up nuclear weapons programs. Enditem
