ATHENS, Aug. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Double diving world champion Guo Jingjing Monday said she was determined to make gold redemption at the Athens Olympic Games.

Guo, titlist in both women's individual and synchronized 3m springboard at last year's Barcelona world championships, will vie for the gold medals in both events at the Aug. 13-29 Games.

"This time I want to be the first," said the quiet Guo, 24.

Guo lost both titles at the Sydney Olympic Games to teammate Fu Mingxia, who once retired after she clinched two golds in the platform in 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where Guo came fifth in her Olympic debut.

"I had very high hopes before the Sydney Games. I really wantedto win but I ended up losing both titles, which dealt a great blow to me," said Guo.

"I made reflection on my failure back from Sydney and I think Iam a lot more mature now," she said.

Guo had her first training class in the Olympic Indoor Hall after the diving team arrived Sunday with a 327-member Chinese delegation.

"I am familiar with the venue because it is the second time I am here but I still have to make some adjustment," she said.

Guo is not only familiar with the venue but will have some advantage psychologically since she finished on the top of the podium in both the 3m board events.

"I have great teamwork with my diving partner Wu and I am experienced after two Olympics, so I am confident," she added.

Guo was paired up with Wu Minxia, four years her junior, three years ago before the duo won the World Championship and the World Cup. Enditem
