BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Microsoft Corp. has finished the largest-ever interim update for its Windows operating system, a broad collection of fixes and improvements meant to address the security problems that have dogged the company's flagship product.
The next challenge: Getting the update installed on the hundreds of millions of home and business computers that use the software, reported CRI online Sunday.
The free update, dubbed Windows XP Service Pack 2, will be made available to computer users in the coming days and weeks in a variety of forms, including download over the Internet and, for those who request it, on a CD in the mail.
Microsoft said all copies of Windows XP on new PCs and in stores should incorporate the service pack by the end of October, although the update could start making its way onto some new computers in as little as a few weeks.
