GAZA, Aug. 8
(Xinhuanet) -- A senior Islamic Jihad (Holy War) official said Sunday that
different Palestinian factions would reopen dialogue in Cairo in September to
mull an anticipated Israeli pullout.
Mohamed al-Hindi said
the dialogue in Cairo was aimed at hammering out a joint national document on
how to rule the Gaza Strip after the Israeli withdrawal.
He
told reporters that an Islamic Jihad delegation had visited Cairo recently and
held talks with Egyptian officials, during which the deteriorating security
situation in Gaza was "thoroughly discussed."
Meanwhile,
senior Palestinian security officials said Omer Suleiman, chief of Egyptian
security intelligence, was due to visit the Palestinian territories in the
coming few days.
The sources, who spoke on condition of
anonymity, told a local radio station in Gaza that Suleiman would meet leader
Yasser Arafat and Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei.
Sharon
stunned the world earlier this year when he unveiled a plan to withdraw Israeli
forces and settlers from all 21 Gaza settlements and four out of 120 in the West
Bank.
Various Palestinian factions were engaged in internal power struggle in the run-up to the planned Israeli pullout from the area, deepening chaos in the Gaza Strip, which was already unsettled by infighting within the Palestinian authorities. Enditem |
