KAMPALA, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Amama Mbabazi as acting attorney general after the post fell vacant in May this year, reported state-owned The New Vision on Friday.

Mbabazi, who is also defense minister and member of Parliament from Kinkizi West, replaces later Francis Ayume who died in a motor accident on May 6.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Janat Mukwaya Friday said Museveni had notified her of the appointment.

"His excellency the president told me that Mbabazi would be theacting attorney general effective from Tuesday," she said.

She said Mbabazi would decide on how to operate between his defense ministry offices and the attorney general chambers.

Until recently, Solicitor General Lucian Tibaruha had been handling the attorney general's work. Enditem
