JERUSALEM, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- A delegation of senior militaryofficials from Egypt visited Israel this week and discussed ways toprevent arms smuggling from Egypt to Gaza, Israeli newspaperHa'aretz reported Friday.
During the talks, the Egyptian delegates, including severalgenerals, agreed to improve in actions against arms smugglers, thereport said.
Israel has said it would agree to allow more experienced troopsinto the border area, meaning the Egyptian Border Patrol instead ofthe police.
The meeting at the Israeli Defense Ministry was linked to theeffort by Israel and Egypt to coordinate in order to make sure thatthe disengagement from Gaza and the northern West Bank issuccessful and that Gaza does not slide into chaos and morefighting, the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, the Egyptians still have not set a date to starttraining Palestinian security officials, according to the report. Since the emergence of the disengagement plan, Israel and Egypthave agreed to hold three relatively high-level sessions. Thisweek's talk is the first one. Enditem
