UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 4 (Xinhuanet) --- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has decided to relocate more international staff out of the Gaza strip, a UN statement release said Wednesday.
It would be the second major withdrawal in two weeks. The decision was made under concerns of Israeli incursions and generalinstability, according to the UN humanitarian agency.
"I have been closely monitoring the evolution of the security situation in the Gaza Strip which forced me on 21 July to relocatepart of my Headquarters staff to Jerusalem," UNRWA's Commissioner-General Peter Hansen said in the statement.
"Since then, Israeli military operations in Beit Hanoun have continued and been expanded and there have been announcements regarding the potential extension of Israeli military incursions into other parts of the Northern Gaza Strip," it said.
All remaining staff in Gaza will move to Amman, Jordan, except for a seven-member team that includes Hansen, his deputy and theirimmediate aides.
According to the agency, nineteen international staff will go to Amman, bringing to about 40 the total from the two announced relocations. Enditem
