BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- A group of Chinese researchers have arrived in Manaus City on the middle reaches of the Amazon River to begin their expedition in the valley's tropical rainforest, reported CRIENGLISH.com.

The group leader says they will start from Manaus and then travel by boat to the upper reaches of the river.

They will carry out research on ecology, biodiversity and the life of indigenous peoples.

This is the first time for Chinese scientists to thoroughly research the 5.8-million square kilometer river valley.
