UNITED NATIONS, July 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States has removed the controversial word "sanctions" in a UN Security Council resolution on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan's Darfur region in a bid to win enough support, the US ambassador to the UNsaid on Thursday.
The council is scheduled to vote on the revised version Friday morning, John Danforth told reporters after a closed council meeting.
The original text threatened that the Security Council would take measures, including sanctions, against Sudan if it failed to disarm Arab militia in Darfur and prosecute its leaders within 30 days. Enditem
