RIYADH, July 28 (Xinhuanet)--  Saudi King Fahd bin Abdel Aziz received Wednesday evening US Secretary of State Colin Powell  to discuss latest developments in the Middle East.

King Fahd and Powell discussed the situation in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian and Iraqi issues and efforts exerted to put the Mideast peace process back on the right track, Saudi News Agency said.

The two leaders said their countries were keen on Iraq's territorial integrity, political independence and stability to help it fully play its important role in the region.

They also discussed bilateral relations and how to develop them, the agency said.

Powell arrived Jeddah late this evening from Cairo for a one-day official visit to the kingdom.

He is expected to hold official talks with the Saudi leadership on issues such as anti-terrorism cooperation, future Iraq, the Palestinian cause, high oil prices and Saudi Arabia's concession to the World Trade Organization.

The top US diplomat is expected to meet in Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, who is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia.  Enditem
