JOHANNESBURG, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Botswana President Festus Mogae and
his Tanzanian counterpart Benjamin Mkapa have held talks in Gaborone on the
Southern African Development Community's (SADC) efforts for peace in the Great
Lakes region.
Mogae's office announced on Wednesday that the talks took place
the day before. No communique in this regard was issued. Mkapa is the outgoing
chair of the SADC.
The two leaders also talked about the SADC's reorganization, as part of
which it has centralized much of its decision making in the Gaborone
secretariat.
After 30 minutes of private talks, the two presidents held an hour-long
roundtable discussion with Botswana cabinet ministers and officials.
The 13 member states of the SADC, Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic
of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa,
Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia andZimbabwe, will hold a summit early August in the
Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. Enditem
