JOHANNESBURG, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Botswana President Festus Mogae and his Tanzanian counterpart Benjamin Mkapa have held talks in Gaborone on the Southern African Development Community's (SADC) efforts for peace in the Great Lakes region.

Mogae's office announced on Wednesday that the talks took place the day before. No communique in this regard was issued. Mkapa is the outgoing chair of the SADC.

The two leaders also talked about the SADC's reorganization, as part of which it has centralized much of its decision making in the Gaborone secretariat.

After 30 minutes of private talks, the two presidents held an hour-long roundtable discussion with Botswana cabinet ministers and officials.

The 13 member states of the SADC, Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia andZimbabwe, will hold a summit early August in the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. Enditem
