ĦĦABU DHABI, July 26 (Xinhuanet) -- A UAE think tank has slammed the Arab League for its tardy reaction, miscalculation and lack of initiative to the Darfur crisis in western Sudan, the official WAM news agency reported Monday.
The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR)said in its newsletter that the Arab League is repeating in Darfur the previous diplomatic mistakes it committed during the Iraq and other crises.
The Darfur crisis has gone beyond the Arab and local framework, said the newsletter, adding that any international intervention would be a direct and inevitable result of absence of regional and Arab role.
The Center, based in Abu Dhabi, said that the events in Darfur sent a significant warning signal that the Arab region is experiencing a major strategic vacuum and unless Arabs rush to fill it, things will not be confined to Darfur.
With the keen interest of the UAE government, the ECSSR was established on March 14, 1994.
The ECSSR was intended to be an independent center focused onscientific research and studies on social, economic and political issues of interest to the UAE and the Gulf region in particular and the Arab world in general. Enditem
