Uganda seeks Israeli assistance in security, intelligence

  ˇˇKAMPALA, July 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Uganda has asked Israel for assistance to help her improve security and military intelligence gathering capacity, according to state-owned newspaper Sunday Vision which is available here on Saturday evening.

    Deputy head of the Israeli embassy in eastern Africa Gilad Millo was quoted as saying that he has received requests from the Ugandan government to implore his government to support the country in security and intelligence.

    Millo, based in Nairobi, has been in Uganda to officiate at an Israeli sponsored agribusiness training workshop at Makerere University.

    "I have got requests about intelligence and security strengthening in the military in Uganda, and I am going to pass onthe requests to Jerusalem," Millo said.

    He said Israel has developed capacity in military, security andintelligence issues, and that he believes Uganda's requests will be considered.

    "Uganda is one of the countries in Africa which has been supporting us, and it is only good to help our friend when they ask for assistance," the Israeli envoy said.

    However, Millo declined to disclose the particulars of the requests, saying that it is Israel's policy not to disclose details of security matters.

    He added that Israel is concerned about the ongoing conflict innorthern Uganda, and said that his country would be willing to help end it. Enditem
