Courtney Love surrenders to police on assault charge

    LOS ANGELES, July 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Troubled US rock singer Courtney Love surrendered to police here Friday on an assault charge related to an April altercation at the home of her former boyfriend and manager.

    Love was late freed by the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire station after being booked and posting 150,000 US dollarsin bail. Police said she was very cooperative in the process as she was photographed and fingerprinted.

    Love faces an assault charge stemming from a fight with a womanlast April at the Los Angeles home of Love's ex-boyfriend and onetime manager.

    An Aug. 20 date was set for a hearing in the case against Love,according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

    Earlier this month, an arrest warrant was issued after Love failed to appear for her arraignment on the assault charge. Her attorney said she had been hospitalized in New York City.

    The actress-singer, who is the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and the former lead singer of the band Hole, has two other cases pending against her in the Los Angeles area.

    In Beverly Hills Friday, Superior Court Judge Elden Fox orderedLove to appear in court next Thursday for a hearing on two felony counts for drug possession.

    Love pleaded guilty May 25 to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance in last October. Sheis expected to be ordered into a drug-treatment program.

    Love also faces a separate reckless endangerment case related to an incident at a New York nightclub, where she hit a man with microphone stand. Enditem
