Iraqi general assassinated by unknown gunmen

    BAGHDAD, July 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Unidentified gunmen attacked are tired Iraqi general who had worked for the former US occupation authorities as he headed to mosque to pray Friday, killing him and another man, police said.

   Maj. Gen. Salim Majeed Blaish, 58, who had been a top commander in the Iraqi army, was travelling with one of his neighbors when they were assassinated by the gunmen in a drive-by shooting.

   Insurgents in Iraq have repeatedly targeted senior officials and members of Iraqi security forces as they were accused of collaborating with the US occupation forces.  Enditem
