| GAZA, July 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO) on Friday said that inter-Palestinian dialogue will continue in order to reach a political programme binding to all national factions.
The PLO executive committee made the pledge in a statement released following a meeting held Thursday night under Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
In the statement, the PLO leadership underlined the necessity of confronting attempts to sow dissension among Palestinians.
The statement, meanwhile, expressed regret and denunciation of the attack on lawmaker Nabil Amr, saying that preliminary investigations showed that the kind of ammunition used in the attack was only possessed by the Israeli side.
Amr, former information minister and now a MP representing veteran leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, was shot and wounded Tuesday night in the West Bank town of Ramallah. He has been awell-known critic of Arafat.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei submitted his resignation last Saturday while the territories witnessed a serious political and security crisis in the wake of Friday's kidnappings of two top Palestinian security officials and four French citizens in Gaza.
The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) reiterated calls for Arafat on Thursday to accept Qurei's resignation and appoint a new cabinet to carry out reforms to tackle the security crisis in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The PLO statement praised stances by Egypt and its President Hosni Mubarak sponsoring Palestinian-Palestinian dialogue and thanked Arab support for the Palestinian stand as regards the separation wall Israel is building on Palestinian lands.
It also called on the international quartet to activate its role in order for the roadmap plan to be implemented. Enditem |
