Bomb explosions have no link to election: Police chief

JAKARTA, July 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian Police chief GeneralDa'i Bachtiar said on Wednesday that although the most recent explosions had no link with effort to disturb presidential election, they might aim to create fear among people.

"There are no links directly, but if the explosions continuously spread to other places they can create a fear," Bachtiar told reporters when asked whether the recent explosions in three places have links with efforts to fail the election.

Indonesia is scheduled to hold a run-off of the presidential election on Sept. 20 to choose the top state leaders.

To anticipate emerging other explosions, the police chief said that he would ask the police authorities to increase the alertness across the country.

"From all provincial police chiefs ....to the district police chiefs, all of them must be alert, they must increase their alertness," Bachtiar said.

He said that the three explosions occurred separately at Langkat district in North Sumatra province; in Bandung, capital city of West Java province; and in Poso district, Central Sulawesi province, were triggered by local problems. Enditem
