BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Director Zhang Yimou's heavy-hitter "House of Flying Daggers" has high-kicked its way to a record Chinese box office taking 33 million yuan, or about 4 million US dollars, for the first three days, reported CRIENGLISH.com.

The martial arts blockbuster broke the record of 31.9 million yuan set by the filmmaker's 2002 film "Hero".

House of Flying Daggers made the new record in spite of being panned by critics, proving once again how the Zhang Yimou brand has become a sure thing at the box office.

Producer of the film Zhang Weiping said the movie was not perfect, but he says it's real a Chinese saga that conquered Hollywood.

He also said a pirated version was available on the internet although much work has been done to fight against a copy slipping out illegally.
