Quake hits east Japan

    TOKYO, July 17 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted several prefectures in east Japan Kanto region Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

    The quake was also felt in Tokyo and its neighboring area, said the agency.

    There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake which hit at 3:10 p.m. (0410 GMT).

    The epicenter was about 60 km underground in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, the agency said. Enditem
