BAGHDAD, July 11 (Xinhuanet) -- A roadside bomb targeting a US convoy killed two US soldiers and wounded three on Sunday near the restive Iraqi town of Samarra, the US military said in a statement.

The soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division were wounded when an improvised explosive device blew up near their convoy about 4:30 p.m., the statement said.

The injured soldiers were evacuated to a military medical facility, the military said.

The names of the soldiers killed were being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

More than 875 US troops have died since the beginning of the US-led war in Iraq on March 20, 2003. Enditem
